Age 19 on underarm sweating

I work as a bartender and sweaty armpits really gets to me. I hate lifting my arms up, its embarrassing and uncomfortable. When I run I get chaffing, and I am always wearing black. I dress like death itself, black T shirts, black shirts, black everything. I tried Driclor but I found it irritated my skin, I didn’t know that sweat stopping treatments could work so well. After one week, my sweating stopped. Its like someone turned the tap off…

Specialist comment

Excessive underarm sweating, or axillary hyperhidrosis is very common, and two questions will give me the answer to the severity of the condition- firstly, what colour do you normally wear? Secondly, are you conscious of lifting your arms up? The answers are ‘black’ and ‘yes’.
Now we have an array of successful treatments, including over the counter antiperspirants such as Driclor. This can be effective in mild cases of underarm sweating, however it must be used cautiously or a rash will develop.

Injections are now possible under the PBS, most patients will have relief of underarm sweating for upto 6 -7 months.
